Carbon Neutrality: The future of electric boats

CGTN AFRICA - February 25, 2022

Exerpt from the first minute of the CGTN Africa report.

It can go fast especially considering there are no fossil fuels involved here., This motor is 100% electric and it can reach speeds of almost 100 km per hour. Waves without the noises. It’s now a reality.

Xavier Montagne– Look we can speak easily without anything and it’s so peaceful. We want to respect the environment and this is why we are developing a unique powertrain, an electric powertrain motor for 20 to 24 feet long boats. It’s not only an electric outboard it’s an electric powertrain.

Narrator– But could electric boats become the future of the industry? The team at Vision Marine Technologies believes so. They created the E-Motion 180E the first electric boat engine to use lithium batteries and recharge overnight. No more low horse power engines and batteries that leaves no space for boat guest.

Interviewer– And I can confirm that this new technology is truly noiseless, smokeless, and odorless.

Interviewer– It’s the first time that I have conducted an interview on a boat without asking the captain to turn off the motor.

Interviewer– How much for the smaller engine that can power a boat like this one?

Xavier Montagne– The entire powertrain is $ 80,000 USD.

Interviewer– That’s a lot of money

Xavier Montagne– Correct, but you have to compare that to refill you need 4$ a gallon. Depending on the price of a gas tank, you might spend 150$ for a similar use. After many months it’s quite cheap compared to the ICE engine solution.

The Canadian publicly-traded company generated Buzz at Miami’s Boat Show from both fans and skeptics.

MIBS Visitor :

– The quietness is good, no fuel, plug-in, pretty nice! I’ve been to Balboa Island in California and they have a lot of electric boats cruising around the bay and it seems very efficient.
